Last Friday Rooms 1 and 2 at Kumara School made triangle art. Each child had two triangles and chose a 'warm' and 'cold' colour. Once they were completed they were pasted on to large pieces of black paper. The art work is displayed in the foyer of the office. We have had lots of positive comments. The children worked very hard during this project and are proud of their effort.
Welcome to our blog - we are a class of Year 4 to 8 students from Kumara, on the West Coast of the South Island of NZ. Our teacher is Mr Fogarty.

Transformation using grids
This week we found an accredited image on Explore and selected it to use on our page. We then put a 5x5 grid on it so we could copy the image and make it original. Mrs Minehan selected the first two images so we could understand the process, then we got to choose our own image. We found the first one of the korus quite challenging to get the shape correct and while the second one of the tree was an easier shape, the colours needed to be explored but that part was a lot of fun. The students chose their favourite image and blogged about it, so please have a look on their individual blogs to see their amazing efforts. Have you ever tried to transform an image using a grid? How did you find the process?

Working on Animated Slideshow of an Environmental Disaster.
Room 1 are working on making their own animations of an environmental disaster in their community. This photo shows the humorous part because the class are currently facing their own environmental disaster with over half of their classmates down with the flu! Yes this is their whole class and it's been like this for the last week. They are working through a slide show of instructions and will be posting their animated slideshows on their blogs when they are completed. Watch this space ...

Google MyMaps
Over the last couple of weeks we have been learning how to use Google MyMaps and then we got to look closely at our own environment and locate landmarks. For each landmark we found we had to name it, write something about it and find an image of it so that the pin on our map had information on it. This is one of our finished maps of Kumara. We have posted them on our blogs so we hope you will have a look at them. Have you ever used myMaps to locate places in your community?

We're showing the Kawa of Care
As a class we have been looking at the Kawa of Care rules. We read all the rules and highlighted them so we could see what was very, very important, what was really important and the rest were important. Then we chose one of the rules and we made a poster on the |Google draw tool. We have made a class poster with links to our individual posters. We hope you follow our rules. Smart blogging from Room 1.
